PHOTO ARK

  • Premieres October 17 and 24 at 10/9c on Nat Geo WILD

In the two-hour PHOTO ARK special, tag along with National Geographic photographer, Fellow, and Founder of the National Geographic Photo Ark Joel Sartore on his quest to use the power of photography to inspire people to save species at risk by photographing every species living in the world’s zoos and wildlife sanctuaries. He just recently documented the 10,000th species for the Ark, and he always goes to great lengths to photograph thousands more, even if it means following a giant armadillo into a bathroom! Joel dives deep under water in the Amazon rainforest and soars more than 12,000 feet above the tree line in the Colorado Rockies just so he can get the perfect shot and encourage people to care about endangered species before it’s too late. He must constantly adapt his ever-changing “photo studios” and accommodate animals with unpredictable habits to create a connection with audiences around the world, showcasing these species like never before. “It’s the eye contact that moves people,” Sartore explains. “It engages their feelings of compassion and a desire to help.”
