ACTIVATE: THE GLOBAL CITIZEN MOVEMENT

  • ACTIVATE: THE GLOBAL CITIZEN MOVEMENT is a six-part documentary series from National Geographic and Procter & Gamble on Global Citizen’s efforts to combat global challenges connected to extreme poverty. Each episode delves into a different issue connected to the root causes of poverty, following a specific Global Citizen campaign and the organizers, amplifiers, grassroots activists and people whose lives are being changed. As revealed in the episode “Ending Cash Bail,” one-third of people incarcerated in the United States have not been convicted of a crime but are simply awaiting trial because they cannot afford to pay their bail. As these defendants wait months for their trial, they often lose jobs and housing, making it harder to get out of the cycle of poverty. This episode explores how the abolishment of cash bail is one major step toward ending poverty in the U.S. Additional episodes address responsible sourcing, clean drinking water and sanitation, girls’ education, plastic waste and disaster relief.
